What Is The NDIS Code Of Conduct?

The NDIS Code Of Conduct promotes safe and ethical ways of working and properly providing services to NDIS participants. This is to protect the participant and organisation from severe consequences. is mandatory to follow and implement. There are a total of 7 codes to abide by:

Act with respect for individual rights to freedom of expression, self-determination, and decision-making in accordance with relevant laws and conventions:

Organisations must ensure that they are giving the proper respect to the participants present. Participants have the right and the freedom to make their own decisions and solutions. They are also given the opportunity to increase their skills with self-determination and confidence. Freedom of speech and expression must be encouraged and should not be refrained. 

Respect the privacy of people with a disability:

Privacy is a significant part of being an NDIS provider. You must ensure complete confidentiality between the participant and yourself. Providers must not reveal their details and plan unless it is with their permission. The people close to them must have signed authority for them to access their documents and personal information. If a participant wishes to have complete privacy, you must ensure that they get what they need.

Provide support and services safely and competently with care and skill:

Organisations must ensure that they provide the right kind of resources and assistance to the participants. They are entitled to receive proper support and encouragement from the NDIS providers. The skill exhibited during the services must be safely executed and proceeded with.

Act with integrity, honesty, and transparency:

Providers must ensure that they act with honesty, integrity, and transparency to support the participants in their journey with the NDIS. You must understand the struggles and importance of the participants to empathise with their condition and provide them with the proper support. 

Promptly take steps to raise and act on concerns about matters that might have an impact on the quality and safety of support provided to people with a disability:

Participants have the right to administer complaints and doubts about the service given to them. In response, NDIS providers must act honestly and professionally to tackle the problems listed. They must not worry or bring stress to the participant in any way. 

Take all reasonable steps to prevent and respond to all forms of violence, exploitation, neglect, and abuse of people with a disability:

The organisation must be a place of love, care, and support. The environment must align with the participants’ goals and must not hinder their progress. If there is any negligence or harm, providers must protect the individuals in the program promptly and immediately. 

Take all reasonable steps to prevent and respond to sexual misconduct:

Participants should be kept safe and protected throughout their journey and progress. No harm or form of abuse should be accepted or tolerated on the premises. Providers should take immediate action to preserve the dignity of the participant and organisation.
